Aural Archipelago is a survey of Indonesian music and sounds through field recordings and tapes collected throughout the archipelago.
My name is Palmer Keen - I am an American English teacher in Bandung, West Java whose hobby for the past two years has been traveling around this country making informal field recordings of traditional music across the archipelago.

My field recording practice is informal and unacademic. I often fail to get artist and song names, and recordings are of course not made in a studio, which is abundantly clear - they are filled with the sounds of Indonesian life - motorbikes in the distance, kids playing, chirping insects. These sounds are important to share regardless.
All recordings, videos, and photos are produced by myself and all rights to the music belong to the musicians - if any musician does not wish to have their music shared, please contact me.
If all goes according to plan, soon each post will also feature a Bahasa Indonesia translation - this project is not just for foreigners, but for the people of Indonesia to discover and fall in love with their own music just as I have.
